Cancer cells found in the lining of the chest cause pleural mesothelioma and cancer cells found in the lining of the abdomen cause peritoneal mesothelioma. Most people with mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they breathed asbestos. Workers exposed to asbestos in the 1940s, 50s, 60s and 70's, through no fault of their own, are now getting these diseases due to the long latency period of asbestos disease. The purpose of this site is to assist and empower people who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma. It is important that patients and their families understand their options in coping with this disease to make an educated decision.
